The Dire Cafe

Let Me Tell You About My Paladin

Vulcan Stev

Nothing witty for a title... Just some simple observations.

Earlier this year the modem took a header. I had to stop blogging. I missed out on a lot of TEEoRCoX. I haven't written a Stev story in 12 months. I meander into the cafe every now and then and feel like a bystander.

When I got the modem back up and running I found that much to my surprise that the blog was averaging about 400 hits/day. I found that encouraging and based on requests from folks on Twitter and Facebook, I started blogging again.

This is where it gets frustrating, as soon as I started putting up fresh content the hits actually dropped from 400+/day to 20/day. I like blogging, but not that much. My kids mean more to me than writing in a vacuum. I have also discovered that I am in fact NOT a writer (at least not like most of you). I'm better at D30 lists, short articles, and quick observations than I am at long in depth articles.

Today is the first time I've turned on the computer in a week. I haven't missed Twitter. I haven't missed Facebook. I have missed my fellow Paladins, but again I fell more like a bystander at this point. I'm not abdicating my position as a Paladin, I just don't know how often I'll be checking in. I unplugged this week and found I had time for the stuff I enjoy, DVDs, puppets, Friday nights on Siffy, Tae Kwon Do.

Peace out.

So, no more Ranger Co. X?

Sorry to hear that, but totally understandable.

Dunno. Again I don't know how often I'll be checking in. Maybe a friendly e-mail reminder will get me over here to write some TEEoRCoX.

That actually sounds like the essence of blogging to me. :)

I was just thinking that I hadn't seen you around lately. Still, spending less time online is never a bad thing. Take care of the priorities, man, but don't be a stranger. You add a lot to the place.

OK I just re-read this. It sounds more finalized than I intended.

I'm NOT leaving 8-) I just don't know how often I'll be around.

(I still want to run that Car Wars scenario using Risus)

Besides, if I leave now, I'll NEVER get that coveted title.

It's all about balance Stev. If you're happy with the less plugged in lifestyle... then rock it! I was debating that myself as my own writing has taken a back seat to just surviving.

HI STEVE!

Do what you need to do, just don't lose tough completely. You'll notice that other Paladins drop in and out all the time. It's cool. Just stick your head in once in a while to say hi and let us know you're okay.

Kind of why I abandoned my regular blog and went with Tumblr. Tumblr is set up specifically for short stuff (although you can do longer stuff if you want to). Also why I don't usually post on weekends (family time). Basically, I'm only online during lunch breaks or other short time periods (Google Reader has helped a bunch with keeping up to date on a lot of sites from one convenient location).

These seem the most popular sort of blog entries anyway. I've lost track of how many I have read that lack more than three or four sentences.
As the Duke of Shotgun Posting, my opinion here is only worth so much, but I'm content with you dropping in whenever you can. Posting here (or elsewhere) shouldn't be work. It can seem overwhelming when you know you have dozens of new posts to read after you have been gone for a while. Just take it a bit at a time, and call it an evening when it stops being enjoyable--the posts will still be here, and so will the rest of us Paladins.
